Light is an origin of wonder, one of the great mysteries and a seed of human inquiry. We humans are curious discoverers, using starlight to navigate a course into understanding the scientific mysteries of our natural world. This new body of work is charting a developing mythology guided by light that is an installation of objects visualizing the collective need to wonder about the mysteries in the darkness below in our oceans and those above in the sky, and an homage to the powerful energy that allows for the generation of light itself.
The assemblage of experimental technological objects like illuminating rain sticks and reimagined lensed telescopes, embellished star map tapestries, and projected video become interstellar vehicles for dynamic storytelling. These physical gestures are both documents of scientific discovery and musings on the striking visual similarities between the nightly migrations of phytoplanktons in the midnight zone and the vastness of the extreme deep field beyond our solar system.
The collected objects create an interactive installation of bedazzled textiles, projected and reflected light through telescopic glass lenses, and illuminated technofuturistic rainsticks that merge with and are activated with our bodies. This is our documentation of active wonder. We believe our evolving wild future on this planet and elsewhere can be created and shared as a sustainable space through deep connection with the universal geometries of nature as they are demystified with science and disseminated with mythology.
