Seed Sphere

Seed Sphere, 2025 Handblown, sculpted, and cast glass, LEDs, 3D printed PET, stainless steel wire and cable, custom programming. 16’ x 16’ x 16’ Nursing and Science Building, Rutgers University- Camden NJ. Seed Sphere is a reflection of the outward engagement of Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden, serving to connect Rutgers to the Camden community. The installation is intended to serve as a glowing beacon for social and environmental progress. The sculpture's form is inspired by seed bombs that infuse wild spaces with color and habitat for pollinators. This concept is meant to symbolize the way the Nursing and Science Building, alongside other campus developments, is transforming Camden, while also seeding hope and opportunity into downtown and neighboring communities. The sculpture is composed of botanical glass forms en masse: sunflower seeds, maple seeds, dandelion, and tillandsia. All are native to New Jersey, except for the tillandsia, which grows in southern North America. The inclusion of tillandsia is informed by climate migration, the gradual movement of flora towards cooler soils. In Seed Sphere, the plants become symbols of immigration and multiculturalism.
